SHILLONG: Police on Friday arrested Judas M Wallang, president of Seng Samla Shilliang Umkhen (SSSU), on charges of assaulting labourers working under Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope’s son
The arrest was made following an FIR lodged by Nongrum on Thursday in which he stated that some SSSU members led by Judah had gone to the construction site of the MATI building at Mawdiangdiang and assaulted his labourers.
It is learnt that Judah had gone to Rynjah police station on receiving a summon but was arrested by the police there.
Meanwhile, the SSSU has demanded the immediate release of their president.
SSSU general secretary Balajied Mylliempdah said the Union used to conduct checking from time to time at various construction sites at Mawdiangdiang to find out whether any illegal migrants were working as labourer.
When the Union found out that minors were being engaged as labourers at the site, they took up the matter with Nongrum who assured that the minors would be asked to leave.
“We were later surprised to learn that an FIR had been filed against Judah,” Mylliempdah added.
It may be mentioned that Judas is the son of Rev. PBM Basaiawmoit.
