3 criminals arrested

HAZARIBAGH: Police arrested three miscreants involved in looting of a petrol pump about two months ago in this district on Thursday. Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kamboj said the miscreants identified as Churaman Dangi, Sakaldeo Dangi and Rajendra Paswan along with three other accomplice had looted Rs 85,000 from a petrol pump located at Pandeybara under Chouparan police station area on September 7, 2011. ”These three arrested have also worked for proscribed outfit MCC,” Mr Kamboj said adding that efforts are on to nab remaining three. A mobile phone and Rs 2,000 in cash were recovered from them. (UNI)

Farmer commits suicide

JEYPORE (ORISSA): Unable to bear the loan burden, yet another farmer of Koraput village under Kolar panchayat of Boipariguda block committed suicide on Wednesday. 65-year old Damburu Gowada had borrowed loan from various agencies for the ensuing kharif crop and did five acres of farming. However, the entire crop got damaged as drought situation prevailed in the areas, family sources said. Perturbed over the future loan payment the old farmer committed suicide by consuming poison. The body of Damburu has been sent Boipariguda hospital for autopsy and Jeypore sub-collector is inquiring the matter. Damburu case was third such incident reported in Jeypore sub-division this year. Meanwhile, Upper Kolab project committee, the apex body of pani panchayats has expressed shock over the incident and demanded the government should immediately waive loan for the farmers in distress in tribal areas. 4 die, 7 injured in road accident

NASHIK: Four passengers died on the spot and seven others injured when their minibus collided with a lorry on Malegaon-Manmad road at Nagaon in Malegaon taluka of the district on Thursday. A minibus was going to Malegaon from Manmad while the lorry was travelling in opposite direction when the mishap occurred, Malegaon police said. The victims were identified as Kalpana Nandlal Shelar (40), Rupali Ramdas Shelar (16) (both from Nagaon), Lata Pintu Jamara (35) and her daughter Maya (both from Madhya Pradesh). All the indjured persons were admitted to general hospital at Malegaon. Lorry driver has been absconding since the incident, they added. Police have registered a criminal case in this regard. (UNI)

Man loses life while boarding train

NEW DELHI: A man was killed after he slipped and fell on the tracks while trying to board a moving train on Wednesday night at Nizamuddin Railway Station in the capital, police said. Bhagwan(40), was trying to board the speeding Rajdhani Express to Indore when the incident took place at around 2130 hrs on Wednesday night. A police official said the man was bleeding profusely after suffering multiple injuries and was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre were he succumbed to his injuries. (UNI)

Police seize opium worth Rs 10 lakh

SANGRUR: Police apprehended three drug peddlers riding a motorcycle at village Chhajla in the district and recovered 13 kg opium worth about Rs 10 lakh from them. SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar on Thursday said that the accused identified as ex-serviceman Narinder Chaudhry and another person Parmanand, both from Rajasthan, and Devi Lal of Madhya Pradesh were coming from Lehra side on motorcycle. They were proceeding to sell the opium in Sangrur-Sunam areas, the SSP said, adding that the ex-serviceman was dismissed from service on recovery of opium from his possession at Hissar in 2000. College student commits suicide

SONEPAT: A Nepalese student committed suicide by hanging himself in the hostel of Venkateswar Engineering College at Pipli Khera village in this district on Thursday. Police said Rahul, hailing from Janakpur Dham in Nepal, was found dead in his hostel room when two of his room mates reached there after their classes. They informed the college management about his death. Police handed over Rahul’s body to his family after the post- mortem. Police registered a case in this connection and started investigations.
