Goalpara (ASSAM): Two GNLA insurgents were nabbed and arms recovered from them following an encounter with a joint army and police team in Assam’s Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya on Saturday. On a tip-off, the security team asked the vehicle in which the rebels were travelling with three others from Meghalaya to stop at Nissangram Laskarpara, police said. The GNLA militants, based in Meghalaya, opened fire at the security men, who also retaliated exchanging fire for about an hour, the sources said. During the encounter, three GNLA rebels fled while two others were apprehended with a US-made 9-mm pistol and a magazine, 135 live rounds of AK-47 assault rifle ammunition, two grenades and Rs three lakh in cash.
