Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Sunday paid homage to former Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his Death Anniversary.

Describing Nehru as the ”architect of modern India’, MPCC chief DD Lapang said Nehru was a man who laid the foundation for a strong, secular and democratic nation.

“He was the champion of non-alignment who had brought about peace in the world otherwise torn apart by cold war. He was a real friend of the tribal people, who identified himself with their hopes and aspirations”, Lapang said.

The MPCC recalled the multifaceted personality of Pandit Nehru who laid down the blue print for prosperity and progress of the nation through planned economic development, with tremendous thrust on science and technology.
