Singapore: They are yet to work in a film together but father-son duo Ranbir and Rishi Kapoor performed on stage together for the first time at the 13th IIFA awards here last night. There was much hype about their act and the two actors lived up to it by delivering a rocking performance together.

They began with Rishi Kapoor’s song ‘Om Shanti Om’ and then danced to the modern version of the song ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ from Ranbir’s film of the same name. There was a slight goof up as well during the performance as their shiny jackets got interchanged.

While dancing, Ranbir put on Rishi’s jacket, which was a bit to oversized for him, while Rishi wore the one meant for his son. “This has been a great evening – I had the privilege of dancing with my father for the first time in an act choreographed by Prabhu Deva,” Ranbir said after the performance.

Other acts in the evening included Bipasha Basu dancing to a medley of item numbers, Shahid Kapoor performing to some hit South Indian tracks and a few of his own film songs.

The first performance of the awards night, hosted by Shahid and Farhan Akhtar, was by Sonakshi Sinha. Rowdy Rathore director Prabhu Deva delivered a scintillating performance dancing to the title track of the film.

Bollywood diva Rekha was honoured for her Outstanding achievement in Cinema at the 13th IIFA awards here as actress Priyanka Chopra paid a tribute to her with a performance. Beginning with the song ‘In Aankhon Ke Masti ke’, Priyanka went on to groove to remixed beats of ‘Salaam-e-Ishq’, ‘Pyar Do Pyar Lo’ and ‘Pardesiya’. Then she put on a bright printed shirt to impersonate Dharmendra for the song ‘Rafta rafta’, going down in the audience to bring Rekha up to the stage and shaking a bit of leg with her.

“You have been an epitome of grace and poise. Thank you for being my inspiration. You should have got the outstanding achievement award 20 years later, but we are giving this to you now for what is to come,” said Priyanka. Actor Shatrughan Sinha – who is starring opposite Rekha in a new film Aasman se Aage – and his daughter Sonakshi presented the Silsila star with the trophy.

Zohra Segal was honoured for turning 100 this year, coinciding with the 100th year completion of Indian cinema. (Agencies)
