WKH NGOs call off office picketing

NONGSTOIN: West Khasi Hills NGOs including KSU, WYF, WKHSU and FKJGP have suspended their call for two-day office picketing on Wednesday and Thursday after PW Ingty, Principal Secretary of the PHE department, dispatched a letter through the Deputy Commissioner of the district assuring the NGOs that the sanctioned amount of Rs 133.94 crore for Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme (NUWSS) was intact and not deducted.

The Principal Secretary also assured that the scheme shall be implemented in different packages and the current tender as invited by the concerned department is Rs 16.8 crore for works and Rs 14 crore for materials.

The NGOs, while taking note of the fact that no amount for each package was mentioned, met the Deputy Commissioner and demanded that the packages with details amount and list of works for each packages should be provided within a week’s time failing of which the NGOs threatened to call agitation again.
