After being in the in

dustry for over three

decades, National award-winning filmmaker Priyadarshan says he still does not know the formula of making successful movies.

The veteran director has an impressive body of work in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema. In Bollywood, he is remembered for comedy films like ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Hungama’, ‘Hulchul’, ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Bhagam Bhag’ and ‘Malamaal Weekly’.

His notable films in South include ‘Kanchivaram’, (Tamil film set in the silk weavers’ town of Kanchipuram, in post-independence India), ‘Kaalapan’ (Malayalam film based on the lives of prisoners in British India), ‘Vellanakalude Nadu’ (Malayalam film based against municipal mafia in the form of Buildings and Public roads) among others.

“With an experience of 32 years and 86 films, I never learnt what a successful formula is to make a film and how to bring people to the theatre. I have only attempted at making good films and I am happy that I have succeeded most of the time. And I am proud of this,” Priyadarshan told PTI.

For the first time this year, Priyan dabbled into the genre of action-thriller with ‘Tezz’, which bombed at the box office. But he remained unfazed with the outcome of the film.

“I was not disappointed. After so many years of experience there is no disappointment as you make what you want to. If it does not work I don’t think of it, I move on with the next project. Every film cannot be a hit, every time you are not right, it happens to me also,” he said.

“Sometimes I also go wrong with my films. When it goes wrong then I try to correct it in my next film. If you fail to correct the wrong ones (films) three-four times then you are out of the industry,” he added.

‘Tezz’ created buzz for Mallika Sherawat’s item number ‘Laila’, which did not go down well with the director as he felt it was not required and was added just for promotions.

Also, there were some issues with Producer Ratan Jain of Venus. “I don’t know what went wrong with ‘Tezz’.

So I am trying to do something new and different and hope that it becomes successful,” he said. “There are people who say they know the business and how to make a successful film, but I don’t know ,” he added.

Meanwhile, Priyadarshan is looking forward for his forthcoming Hindi film ‘Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal’ which he insists is not a sequel to his 2006 hit comedy film ‘Malamaal Weekly’.

“This film is not a sequel in real sense. There is only one thing common in both the films and that is lottery ticket. This story is set in a different village. There are few characters from the original film in this movie also but they are playing different roles,” he said.

The actors who have been repeated for this comedy film ‘Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal’ are Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Shakti Kapoor. While the new additions to this film are Nana Patekar, Shreyas Talpade, Asrani and Anjana Sukhani. The film is set to release on September 28. (PTI)
