SHILLONG: Air Warriors of Air Force Station Laitkor Peak rescued the villagers of Rngi from a massive fire which broke out on Friday night.
The Air Warriors spotted a massive fire in the adjacent village of Rngi at around at around 11.30 pm following which the Air Force Fire Tenders rushed to the spot within three minutes.
While the fire was raging the Air Force men helped the villagers to save their lives, property and livestock even as the Civil Fire Department of 5th Mile area was informed to bring in additional fire tenders to control the blaze.
“The civil fire tenders reached the spot after one hour,” Air Force sources said.
Meanwhile, additional Air Force personnel were deployed to evacuate the villagers to a safe place.
Around 70 villagers struggling to save their lives and property were evacuated and rescued safely by the trained Air Force personnel.
It took three hours for the Air Force and Civil Fire tenders to douse the heavy flames. No casualties were reported.
