Statehood activists storm Tura DC’s office

TURA: In an unprecedented incident several statehood activists stormed the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday and manhandled government employees besides pelting stones after their plan to head down to the plain belt region to enforce their 12-hour bandh was scuttled.

The statehood activists besides manhandling a lady government employee also assaulted a senior lower division assistant.

Scores of activists in as many as ten vehicles barged into the office of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi after 1 pm to vent their anger after their convoy was intercepted at Selsella by police during a planned attempt to enforce the 12-hour bandh in the Phulbari-Rajabala region which witnessed a lukewarm response to the Garoland stir.

The student volunteers took security forces and administration by surprise when they entered the office premises of the deputy commissioner and went from room to room, pushing out employees for violating the bandh. No arrest has been made in this connection till the of filling this report.
