SHILLONG: The CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing was granted bail on Friday evening by the Sessions Court.

Kharshiing’s lawyer Poonam Yadav, however, informed that the execution of bail bond will be done on Saturday.

Kharshiing will come out from jail only on Saturday since the formalities in this regard could not be completed on Friday as the bail order was issued late.

Earlier in the day, the Investigation Officer (IO) had submitted the case diary and also filed the chargesheet before the Sessions Court Judge A Ripnar.

Kharshiing’s lawyer had filed a fresh bail application in the session’s court after the lower court rejected Khashiing’s bail application. Yadav filed the petition in the Sessions court under Section 439 of the CrPC.

Kharshiing was arrested for allegedly obstructing an eviction drive conducted by MUDA at Umsawli. Meanwhile, the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has urged Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and Home Minister Roshan Warjri to intervene in the matter also to ensure transparency in the land dealings for the proposed construction of New Shillong Township.

In a statement issued here, AHRC also asked the Superintendent of Police, Shillong city to act on the FIR filed by Agnes alleging trespassing in the proposed eviction sites.

The AHRC also sought the intervention of National Human Rights Commission.
