NSCW to launch ‘Fortnight observation on Elimination of Violence against Women’

Kohima: As per the United Nations declaration, the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) is launching the observation of ‘Fortnight Observation on Elimination of Violence against Women’ from tomorrow to December 10 at Red cross conference hall. The theme would be ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the world: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence against women’. According to sources on Sunday, Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary Women Development, Cooperation and Sericulture, Pukhayi, will be the Chief Guest on the occasion to begin on Monday. In this connection, the commission has requested two representatives from all Tribal Woman Hoho/organizations to attend the launching programme and collect materials like pamphlets, posters, banners, booklets etc. after the launching programme from the commission’s office for distribution and display in their respective districts. Dimapur traders, Villages ban taxation, donation

Kohima: East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) along with village councils of Purana Bazara, Padum Pukhuri, Darogapathar and Naharbari jointly resolved to ban any form of taxation, donations and selling of calendar by any government agencies or any other organizations within east Dimapur jurisdiction. In a press release, EDBA’s media cell this was resolved at the joint meeting held yesterday at EDBA office, Dimapur. The members of four village councils along with EDBA members advised all business establishments to adhere on the decision. It stated that the house also directed all business establishments within east Dimapur to paint and decorate their respective shops by the December 10. Reiterating support for ACAUT and its initiative, the house resolved to formalize local Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) in east Dimapur. The four village councils along with EDBA also resolved to coordinate and work together for the welfare of the public and business community. (UNI)

Bomb explodes in interior Manipur district

Imphal: A powerful bomb exploded in Manipur’s interior Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar last night, police said on Sunday. The bomb was planted by militants at Phungreitang area under Ukhrul police station. In the bomb blast, no casualty was reported. No individual or group has claimed responsibility so far. (PTI)

Arunachal governor pays homage to martyrs

Itanagar: Terming martyrdom as the “ultimate” form of patriotism, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today said paying homage to such brave sons was the “highest” form of worship. “The nation can never repay them for their deeds. It is an act which is well beyond the confines of religion and politics,” he said while felicitating the families of martyrs at Raj Bhawan here, official sources said. Sharing his experience, the governor said, “Having been a soldier and worn the uniform for 40 years, I know that a soldier fights for his country irrespective of his religion, caste and community. I am often asked as to why does a soldier (during war) walk into a situation of certain death? What makes him do this act?” “Having seen this from close quarters, I consider it to be a determination to achieve the goal and defend the motherland. The man in him urges him to go on and on and the nation must recognize it. We are indeed proud of our armed forces and men in uniform who truly symbolise the spirit of secularism and patriotism,” he added. (PTI)

Major fire razes shops in Kiphire in Nagaland

Kohima: A major fire that broke at the heart of Kiphire town, the district headquarters Saturday evening, which has destroyed as many as 16 shops and al least four residential houses. According to sources today, the reason of fire not immediately know, but suspected to be broke out of short circuit of power. The Fire tenders responded to call and the rushed to the spot. Fire was brought under control after much after three hours. However, there was no report of any casualty. The fire gutted cloths shops, pharmacy and grocery shops. District administration, police, Assam Rifles and citizens of Kiphire town also assisted in extinguishing the fire. In a separate mishap, Five persons including president of NPF Kiphire unit, R. Joshua Sangtam sustained minor injuries when the vehicle they were traveling felt into gorge, 15 km from Kiphire on Saturday. (UNI)

Training on Scrub Typhus management in Mon

Kohima: A day-long training on scrub typhus management diagnosis and preventive measures was conducted at Chief Medical Officer’s office Mon recently. According to sources on Sunday, the resource persons were Dr John Kemp, SSO, IDSP, Dr Kevisevolie Sekhose, Epidemiologist SSU, IDSP and Dr CW Nyuthe, physician, Naga Hospital Authority of Kohima. Dr Kevisevolie highlighted on the scenario of scrub typhus in the state. There have also been positive cases of Scrub Typhus detected in Mon in the last few months said Dr Kevi. (UNI)
