I am confident Garo Hills will vote to free India from Cong: Purno
Not afraid to take on PA Sangma: Daryl Momin
TURA: One has been elected to Parliament undefeated from Tura for eight consecutive terms and is hoping to make it to nine while the other is a first timer optimistic of turning the tide against an old hand with the youth card.
Veteran Garo Hills politician and former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno A Sangma filed his nomination papers on the same day as his challenger Daryl William Cheran Momin of the Congress before returning officer Pravin Bakshi at Tura on Friday.
“I am confident that Garo Hills will vote to free India from the Congress,” said P A Sangma as he made his way to the returning officer’s office to file his nomination.
Just a couple of hours before his arrival, Congress candidate Daryl William Momin filed his nomination as the Congress candidate hoped to turn the tables on the seasoned politician.
“I am not afraid of taking on P A Sangma,” said Daryl with a victory sign as he attributed his youth as the driving force to work for the people of Garo Hills.
Daryl was accompanied by Meghalaya Youth Affairs Minister, Zenith Sangma, parliamentary secretary, Noverfield Marak along with a host of Congress supporters including MLAs and MDCs.
Purno Sangma, on the other hand, was accompanied by his daughter and sitting MP, Agatha K. Sangma, his legislator son James K. Sangma and Songsak MLA Nihim D Shira, South Tura MLA, John Leslee K Sangma and several former MLAs, MDCs and senior party functionaries.
