SHILLONG: Home Minister Roshan Warjri said on Friday that the Meghalaya Government had not yet taken any decision to set up designated rehabilitation camps of the ANVC-B in the Khasi Hills region.
“The State Government would not take any decision which would be against the wishes of the people,” Warjri assured while talking to newsmen after a meeting with a delegation of KSU members led by the general secretary of the student body Auguster Jyrwa here.
She said she was surprised to read reports in some newspapers that the Government had identified a location in Aradonga to set up the designated rehabilitation camp of the outfit.
“I want to make it very clear that we have not identified any location for the purpose,” Warjri said.
Earlier, after meeting the Home Minister, Jyrwa said that the KSU strongly opposed the reported move of the Government to allocate land for designated camps of the ANVC-B in West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts.
Common people as well as the district units of the KSU had expressed their resentment and opposition to the reported move of the government, he pointed out. The adverse implications and outcome of such a decision had already been highlighted. The KSU general secretary said that the proposal was a highly inconceivable one as it could lead to many unwanted situations, conflicts and an increase in anti-social activities in these areas . So the Union demanded that the proposal be immediately discarded.
Jyrwa, however, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting with the Home Minister.
The Home department had earlier asked the deputy commissioners of South West Khasi Hills and North Garo Hills to identify suitable area for setting up of one camp each for ANVC-B.
Recently, the South West Khasi Hills District Administration had told the Government that land was not available to set up a camp for ANVC-B.
