Guwahat: An initiative called ‘Mission Clean Brahmaputra’ was launched here today to keep the river clean for a better habitat of aquatic animals and for a greater benefit of the people.
The Mission launched by Aaranyak, a society for nature conservation and a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, would focus on cleaning different river side areas of the Brahmaputra and the community residing alongside will be made aware to maintain the cleanliness drive.
The mission received active participation of local communities and other related stakeholders, Project Head of ‘Mission Clean Brahmaputra’ Dr Abdul Wakid said. “We are greatly encouraged to get such participation from different institutes, organisations and individuals,” he said.
The Mission was formally inaugurated at Uzanbazar Ghat by Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University Dr A K Buragohain and more than 250 students from 12 different educational institutes participated in the cleaning of the river, river banks and river islands of Brahmaputra in and around Guwahati on Sunday.
