SHILLONG:  It has been more than a month since the state Police department is without a full- fledged DGP. In the absence of a full- fledged DGP, Police department is going through a tough time as far as decision-making is concerned.
SK Jain is now officiating as the DGP and on one occasion when he had gone to Delhi, another senior police official BL Buam was overseeing the functioning of the department as the acting DGP.
Though it is more than a  month since the State Home Department appointed Rajiv Mehta as the new DGP of Meghalaya, till date he has not been able to take charge as the Ministry of Home Affairs is delaying the issuance of his release order.
Mehta will succeed PJP Hanaman, who retired on December 31 last.
Mehta, an IPS officer from the 1981 batch of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, is currently serving as the Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)
It is expected that the MHA may issue his release order shortly.
