Mob attack claims two in JH

JOWAI:  Two persons were beaten to death by a mob at Tamu village in West Jaintia Hills on Sunday night. The victims were identified as Ram Chen (30) of Sonaro village and Konit Lytep (33) of Musiaw village.
Police sources informed that at around 10:30 pm Sunday, the duo tried to forcibly enter the house of a woman, Shilas Lamin — of Tamu village. Seeing the duo, the woman started shouting ‘Nongshohnoh, Nongtuh’ – thieves and witchcraft. Hearing the woman screaming, people gathered and apprehended the duo. People attacked the duo with lethal weapons and both died on the spot.Sources informed that, soon after the mob apprehended the duo, some of the villager informed the headman who directed them to take the two to the dorbar hall for interrogation. However, the mob, instead of following
the directive of the headman, beat them to death.A police visited the village for an investigation. Detailsare awaited.
