SHILLONG: After two and a half years, the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has finally got a full-fledged vice-chancellor (VC). President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed  Krishna Srivastava, professor of physical chemistry, Manipur University, as the new VC of this University.
Srivastava’s appointment followed after three student organisations under the banner of Joint Action Committee set September 30 as the deadline to appoint a full-time vice-chancellor.
Srivastava, assumed charge on September 24.
The Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), in the earlier part of this year, had asked NEHU to send a fresh set of names for consideration, after scrapping the names suggested by the previous search committee for the appointment of a full-fledged Vice Chancellor.  The process was delayed for long compelling the student bodies to seek the intervention of the Centre.
He obtained his MSc and PhD degree from IIT Kanpur under the supervision of Padma Bhushan Prof S S Katiyar.  He has been serving there as Professor since 1995. He has done his post-doctoral research  at the University of Bristol, U.K.  He had served as Head of the Department (Chemistry) in Manipur University, for two terms . He is a recipient of Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship. He was also associated with universities of Jharkhand, Bihar, Ranchi.
