Workshop on ‘environment clearance’ held in city

SHILLONG: The State Level Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Meghalaya and the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) jointly organised an interactive workshop on “Environment Clearance (EC) Requirements” here on Saturday.
The interactive workshop was organised for the benefit of all project proponents who intend to apply for environmental clearance for their projects, operators of mine/quarry, interested individuals and organisations.
Around 250 people from across the State participated in the workshop which aimed to explain the requirements for getting environment clearance in respect of various activities like mining of minor minerals, limestone, building projects, etc.
Dr. G.V. Subramaniam, Ex-advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEFCC) and currently a member of the Expert Appraisal Committee of the MoEFCC, was the main resource person who spoke on the Environment Clearance requirements.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Meghalaya Pollution Control Board, C.P. Marak, explained the EC requirements in the context of Meghalaya.
Dr. D.T.Kathing, Chairman of the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), and Toki Blah Chairman, SEIAA, addressed the gathering and explained about the importance of getting EC before undertaking any development activities listed in the EIA notification 2006.
