The Assistant General Secretary of the Central Body Rashtriya Syamsevak Sangh (RSS) Mr V Bhagaiah, came to Shillong on December 15, last for the first time to deliver a talk on the RSS and explain the broad aims of this cadre-based organization and reasons for its formation. The discourse helped enlighten the audience coming from a cross section of society and diverse religious groups that assembled at Shri Aurobindo Institute of Indian Culture (SAIIC) auditorium. I am sure that many of those who listened to the talk were better informed. If Bhagaiah’s words are to be believed, then even the Hindus know nothing or very little about the RSS. His talk has removed to a great extend misgivings about this Hindu based organisation. I hope that this tall leader of the RSS spoke the truth.
In the course of his talk he said that RSS wants all Hindus to lead a pure and exemplary life and believe in the oneness of God. He said that Hinduism is not an institutionalized religion like Christianity or Islam. He said that RSS wants all communities, castes and creeds in India to live in peace and harmony and to value, respect and appreciate one another and be patriotic towards Bharat Mata (India) by pure thoughts and good deeds and to protect and defend the country at all costs. He said that if one religion claims that it is the only true religion and that it alone only can lead to God and others are not then troubles start. He also said that RSS wants every Indian, though belonging to different castes, creed and community, to work very hard to earn their living and dedicate themselves for the uplift of their own lives and that of their communities and for the over-all progress and prosperity of the country. He said that India can thrive only if there is unity in diversity. In answer to queries he said that there are some with vested interests that blamed RSS for everything because they do not know about this organisation and because of jealousy.
It is a fact that there are political parties and many communities in India that label RSS as a die-hard, communal right wing Organisation. It will be in the fitness of things if the RSS central body sends stalwarts like Bhagaiah,who are knowledgeable about many aspects about India and abroad and who can explain thoroughly about the RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal and the frequent frictions among religious communities in India. These selected leaders should clarify the real aims, objectives and activities of the RSS and other kar-sevaks to those places where they are ignorant about this cadre based organisation to dispel the misgivings.

We at Marvelene Inn’s cum Guest House strongly condemn the commission of criminal offences by unscrupulous person and we earnestly request the police to thoroughly investigate and book all those involved. The management is upset by the media reports which brought disrepute to the Guest House by also unnecessarily dragging the proprietor and his family members into the picture. The management hereby clarifies that the Guest House is not in any way connected or involved in the commission of any criminal offence. The management hereby inform that they are prepared to co-operate with the police in their investigation. We request the media as well as the public not to tarnish the good name of the guest house and the goodwill of the proprietor and his family.

Road in total disrepair

Through this esteemed daily, I would once again request the Public Works Department to kindly repair the road leading from Mawroh junction towards NEHU (St. Stephen Memorial Road). The entire stretch of this road has deteriorated and portions of it near the Aganwadi centre- 2 and near the connecting bridge are in real bad shape This road is very busy as it leads to NEHU and all sorts of vehicles ply on this road. This is my second letter to the PWD, the last one was in October 2016 but nothing has been done and the road has gone from bad to worse. For the sake of everyone plying on this road PWD will you please listen!
