JOWAI: Forest and Police officials from Assam tried to encroach into Meghalaya land by setting up a check post at Um-ih Khanduli near Meghalaya Police Battalion camp. The move of the Assam government was stopped on Monday after a meeting between officials from West Jaintia Hills and West Karbi-Anglong districts was held at Khanduli.
Sources informed that the Assam State Forest department with the help of Assam Police tried to set up the check post few weeks ago. However, they were stopped by the local people.
On Monday the Forest officials and Assam Police personnel came to commission the check post.
Immediately the WJH District Administration was informed and CS Laloo, Additional Deputy Commissioner rushed to the spot. After a meeting with the West Karbi-Anglong District Officials, the construction and commissioning of the check post was stopped.
According to sources, again on Tuesday, Assam Police personnel were seen conducting vehicle checking at the same place.
