
Agartala: Tension runs high in Longtarai Valley of Dhalai district in North Tripura with the murder of 45 yr-old teacher Babul Debnath on July 19 night allegedly by BJP activists during clash with CPI-M. The CPI-M observed dawn to dusk strike protesting the incident today and alleged BJP made a desperate attempt to break ethnic amity and perpetrated violence on the leftists ahead of assembly poll to capture power. “We shall not tolerate any such terror and violence of BJP. Tripura is able to restore peace after a long bloodshed of terrorism that affects the pace of development. Today whatever Tripura achieves is only due to constructive approach of CPI-M but now the growth of saffron party trying to mess it,” alleged CPI-M state secretary Bijan Dhar. He however, blamed BJP for terrorising the political situation for past one year and committing attacks on leftist supporters. They have been doing unethical politics by instigating communal and ethnic sentiment to come in power. According to police, at least two persons killed two and four injured in the group clash. Dhar alleged a group of BJP supporters attacked CPI-M party office of Chailengta at evening and injured some cadres of CPI-M party teacher’s front leader Babul was seriously injured and succumbed to injuries on way to district hospital. Meanwhile, BJP alleged that all four injured were belonging to their party and being assaulted CPI-M. The slain teacher Babul Majumdar was among the attackers in Chailengta. They seriously assaulted Nishi Chakma of BJP without any provocation and Babul was killed in mob attack, BJP President Biplab Kumar Deb alleged. He further alleged the unrest triggered when a CPI-M supporter Raju Mani Chakma and a BJP supporter Upendra Reang were discussing about the IPFT’s protest row and with difference in opinions scuffle broke out between them and many others also got engaged in the scuffle. While Babul died on the spot BJP worker Nishi Chakma died yesterday in Agartala Govt Medical College due to serious head injuries. UNI
