SHILLONG: Hamletson Dohling, the first time MLA who has been allotted Urban Affairs department has expressed his desire to see Shillong as clear and green city.

Talking to newsmen here on Thursday after assuming the charge of the department,  Dohling said that he would study the functioning of the whole department and take necessary feedbacks from the officers based on which he would prioritize his agendas.

He, however, said that his first target was to make Shillong city clean and green besides ensuring that the pending projects in the departments were completed.

“I know there are lot of projects which the department has failed to complete and  we will work to complete all those projects,”  Dohling told reporters  while maintaining that he is in the department to work and perform  according to the aspirations of the people.

When asked about his promises to oppose extension of Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in areas like Mylliem and others , Dohling said that his stand still remained the same and he would try his level best to ensure that MUDA’s authority was not extended to those areas since those areas were governed under the Sixth Schedule provisions.

The Urban Affairs Minister   who was the senior leader of the Khasi Students Union had unsuccessfully contested the  2013 Assembly  as UDP candidate from Mylliem constituency.

Dohling,  however contested the  2018 Assembly polls on a People’s Democratic Front (PDF)  ticket and was able to defeat a heavy weight of Congress and former Urban Affairs minister, Ronnie V Lyngdoh from Mylliem   with a margin of  465  votes.
