SHILLONG: The state Congress has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party for failing to lift the ban on coal mining in the state.
Talking to media persons, Congress leader PT Sawkmie said a central leader from BJP whAo came to Meghalaya during elections had claimed that they would resolve the issue within a months’ time.
“However, now it’s six months of this government and BJP is a part of it but there is no word on resolving the issue,” Sawkmie said.
BJP national spokesperson and in-charge Meghalaya Nalin Kohli, during an election campaign rally before the February polls, had said, “We are making the commitment and we will work towards that within a time span of six-eight months if voted to power in 2018. This is one of our agendas as we get closer to the election.”
Terming the Cabinet ministers as “photo-opportunists”, he said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma soon after taking over has claimed that he would bring many benefits to the people of the state but till now many teachers in the state are crying over their salaries.
He also said no big project has been sanctioned for the state in the recent past whereas contractors in the state are waiting for clearance of their bills.
He is also surprised that most of the leaders in the ruling are mum on the price rise, especially of petrol and diesel.
