SHILLONG: A two-day e-waste collection drive will be held at State Central Library, on September 28 and 29 to help residents and consumers dispose of obsolete electronic wastes as per law.
The special e-waste disposal drive is being organised by Environment Information System (ENVIS) Resource Partner Center, NEHU, and M/s Rongjeng Technologies, an e-waste management agency in the North East.
The organisers of the drive said that dumping of electronic items with municipal wastes might be an agent of disaster to the environment and it will pollute ground water.
Wanshan Kharkrang of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) told reporters that residents and bulk consumers in Shillong may bring their obsolete and dead electronic items to the camp.
“The collected electronic wastes will be channelised to recycling centre(s) and the money will be donated to the district administration to be utilised for developmental and awareness schemes run by the district administration from time to time,” he added.
