Police arrest suspected Rohingyas in Silchar

GUWAHATI: Assam police have apprehended six suspected Rohingyas along with a suspected Bangladeshi couple from a rented house at Sonaibarighat Bypass area on the outskirt of Silchar town in Cachar district of South Assam in the wee hours of Monday.

The police have also picked up the owner of the house, one Saigul Islam Borbhuyan. Acting on a tip-off raided the rented house under Rangirkhari Outpost and rounded up the suspected persons.

The detained persons included five girls below the age of 18 years, one boy and the suspected Bangladeshi couple who claim to be from Tripura.

Police informed that further investigation was on to ascertain the exact identity of the detained persons who claimed to have been staying in the rented house for the last four months.
