SHILLONG: The Opposition Chief Whip and Congress legislator P T Sawkmie has criticised the ‘pressure tactics’ of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ((SGPC) on the Harijan Colony issue.
In a statement issued on Friday, Sawkmie said the stand of the committee to put pressure on the state government to resolve the problems of the residents of Harijan Colony, is not acceptable.
“We expect the committee to co-operate with the government regarding the matter, but unfortunately, it seems that the SGPC has given a wrong message to the Home Ministry which compelled the Ministry to summon the Chief Secretary and other officers to Delhi”, Sawkmie said.
According to the Congress legislator, the SGPC has exaggerated the issue. “Moreover, there is no patience on the part of the SGPC to allow the state government to resolve the issue”, he said.
UDP for relocation
The United Democratic Party has stated that it would be good for everyone if the settlers of Harijan Colony are relocated to a better place.
UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh on Friday said, “It will be good for everyone if the relocation takes place.”
Mawthoh added the relocation does not mean depriving them a place but giving them a better place as the area is over congested.
