Priyanka joins #SareeTwitter
New Delhi: The #SareeTwitter trend that has been viral for the past couple of days got a huge boost on Wednesday after Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared a throwback picture from her wedding day. Tens of thousands of people liked the photograph within hours that showed Priyanka Gandhi draped in a pink Banarasi saree. “Morning puja on the day of my wedding (22 years ago!) #SareeTwitter,” read the caption of the photograph from the 47-year-old granddaughter of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Even though she mentioned #SareeTwitter, many users mistook the day for her wedding anniversary and started wishing her happiness. “Happy wedding anniversary @priyankagandhi stay blessed…I always trolled u but today No. Be happy always,” wrote one user. But Priyanka Gandhi soon clarified that her anniversary falls in February and the post was just for #SareeTwitter. “Thanks for all the anniversary wishes…but it’s just a throwback photo for the #SareeTwitter guys, my anniv is in Feb,” she tweeted. Russians top Goa’s tourist charts
Panaji: More Russian tourists visited Goa than from any other country in 2018, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar told the Goa Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. In a written reply tabled during the ongoing Monsoon Session, Ajgaonkar also said that 35.72 per cent of international arrivals comprised of Russian tourists, followed by tourists from the UK with 31.52 per cent arrivals. Tourist from Ukraine, Germany and the US followed next in the international tourism arrival charts. ‘Around 70,81,559 domestic tourists visited the state in 2018, along with 9,33,841 foreign tourists,’ Ajgaonkar said. Goa is considered as one of the top beach tourism destinations in the country. (IANS)


Man falls into river while taking selfie
Shimla: A 25-year-old tourist from Haryana accidentally fell into the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali while he was taking selfies, police said Wednesday. Police and fire brigade officials immediately swung into action after being informed and rescued Lalit Yadav, who is a native of Rewari. His medical examination has been done and he is fine now, officials said. In order to avoid untoward incidents, district administration has already issued instructions to tourists and locals to not to go near rivers and other reservoirs especially during rains. (PTI)


Ex-MLA hides inside train toilet
Bhopal: In a shocking incident, former Madhya Pradesh MLA from Samajwadi Party Sunilam was forced to hide inside a train toilet after an unidentified youth allegedly threatened him with dire consequences. The incident happened when Sunilam, two-time MLA from Multai constituency was travelling from Nizamuddin to Multai in an air-conditioned coach of Gondwana Express on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday. In a letter, Sunilam complained about the incident to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday. Sunilam said that the accused, along with a woman named Aarti, boarded the train at Bina. He allegedly misbehaved and threatened him with dire consequences. The Samajwadi Party leader claimed that he narrated the incident to the train’s travelling ticket examiner (TTE) but to no avail. Sunilam said he hid inside the train toilet to save his life after the accused called up his accomplices when the train reached Bhopal railway station. (IANS)


German envoy meets RSS chief
Nagpur (Maharashtra): German Ambassador to India, Walter J. Lindner, called on RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat and toured the organisation’s headquarters here on Wednesday. Later, he shared pictures of his trip on Twitter with an accompanying post, ‘Visit of Headquarters of RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) in Nagpur and long meeting with its Sarsanghchalak (Chief) Dr. Mohan Bhagwat.’ Lindner also described the RSS, founded in 1925, as ‘the world’s largest voluntary organization though not uncontroversially perceived throughout its history’. During his ongoing tour of Nagpur, the envoy hopped on Maazi Metro for a ride, the city’s first 13.5km long Metro Rail project between Khapri-Sitabuldi, launched on March 8, and said he enjoyed the experience. Man gives triple talaq within 24 hours of marriage
Barabanki (Uttar Pradesh): A man has given triple talaq to his wife within 24 hour of getting married here in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. Shahe Alam, resident of Jahangirabad, had married Ruksana Bano on July 13 and divorced her after her family did not give him a motorbike in dowry. The woman’s father lodged an FIR and a case was registered under the Dowry Act against Alam and 12 member of his family. The case was handed over to the Circle Officer at the Fatehpur police circle for further investigation. Superitendent of Police Akash Tomar said that necessary action would be taken as soon as investigations was completed. (IANS)
