One held for assaulting lecturer
SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Police has arrested one person in connection with the assault of a lady lecturer from a private institute in Tura on August 15 afternoon. Police sources said that hunt is on for the other suspects. On the other hand, it is alleged that the persons who assaulted the lady and her male friend were members of NGOs. The duo was meeting in a hotel room when the incident happened. The accused also posted her photograph on social media and threatened her family as well. The lecturer lodged an FIR in this connection on August 16.

One-day science exhibition
SHILLONG: The Laban Presbyterian Higher Secondary School organised a one-day Science Exhibition for the Lower Primary Section of various schools in Raid Laban area on Friday with the theme “Science in everyday life.” The exhibition was organised with the aim of inculcating scientific knowledge among young students and realising their potential in the world of science, thus triggering the minds of young students with interest in science and technology. Former Commissioner and Secretary, Education department, WR Lyngdoh was the chief guest on the occasion. Nine schools from Raid Laban area have participated and showcased their exhibits in this exhibition. The winners of the various categories were Laban Presbyterian Lower Primary School for transport and communication, St. John Higher Secondary School for waste management and Laban Bengalee Girls Higher Secondary School for resource management category.

Author’s workshop tomorrow
SHILLONG: NEHU Central Library, in collaboration with Elsevier: a global information analytics will organise a one-day “Author’s Workshop on Scholarly Writing & Intellectual Ethics 2019” on Tuesday from 11 am onwards at the Science Seminar Hall, NEHU. The objective of the workshop is to create an opportunity to interact with the librarians, researchers & faculty members besides sharing information about the book publishing process of Elsevier. The workshop will have two sessions. The first session will consist of comprehensive information on Elsevier eBooks User awareness, advantages of ScienceDirect, et al. The second session will include introduction to scholarly publishing, topic pages on ScienceDirect, use of AI in assisting research, et al.

Youth exchange programme
SHILLONG: The office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Khasi Hills District has informed that it will organise the 1st East Khasi Hills District Level Youth Exchange Programme 2019 at USoso Tham Auditorium, Shillong on Wednesday. The programme aims to provide a platform to promote exchange of ideas, values and culture amongst the youth. Youths who have been performing well at the district level will get a chance to represent their district in the state as well as national and international level Youth Exchange Programme, the office informed. In this connection the office of the DSO, Shillong has invited schools, colleges & youth clubs to participate in the programme.
