90.38 grams heroin seized
SHILLONG: Continuing its drive against drug abuse, on Friday, in a joint operation of the East Jaintia Hills police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) recovered 90.38 grams of heroin Heroin at Khliehriat. East Jaintia Hills SP Vivekanand Singh said that the consignment was recovered from one person while he was travelling from Silchar, Jiribam to Shillong, Guwahati in a night super bus. In this connection, a case has been registered and the matter is under investigation.

Electors Verification Programme
SHILLONG: The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), East Khasi Hills District, has informed that as part of the pre-revision activities of the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls with respect to January 1, 2020 as qualifying date, a programme called Electors Verification Programme (EVP) has been launched. The aim of the EVP is to improve the health of Electoral Rolls and enrolment of all eligible citizens during Special Summary Revision, 2020. The EVP will also ensure that all the details of the electors or their Elector’s Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) are without any error.  Under the EVP, voters can verify or authenticate their details by logging on to NVSP portal (nvsp.in) or Voter Helpline Mobile App or Common Service Centres or by visiting any nearby voter facilitation centre. The period of EVP is from September 1 to October 15. The Booth Level Officers will be visiting each and every household from September 1 to 30 for house to house verification.

Guv to open painting exhibition
SHILLONG: Jaya Kalra, an artist from the city will hold a twenty-day long solo exhibition of her paintings based on the theme “I Paint Lives” on Monday. She has already displayed her works earlier in Shillong, Guwahati, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and also in Paris. The exhibition will be held at Chrysalis-The Gallery, 2nd Floor, Salonsar Mansion, above Highland Studio, Khyndailad. This exhibition will be from 11 am till 7pm. The artist has urged the people to come to visit the gallery from September 10 till 30 except Sundays. This exhibition will be inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy as chief guest and Patricia Mukhim, Editor. The Shillong Times will be guest of honour. Being also a healer, Kalra has given a new dimension to both her art and healing by using art to heal. She creates customised art work for people according to their problems or illness, physical or mental. These are created with appropriate colours and symbols through which the person gets healed by visualising them. These include problems like depression, blood pressure, diabetes and many other ailments. She believes if people can’t reach you, then you must reach out to them.

Teachers’ Day celebrated
SHILLONG: AROH Foundation and HDFC bank Ltd have organised the Teachers’ Day celebration at Laitumiong Village at the Community Hall on Thursday. SSA Coordinator A Bynnud was the chief guest. The programme was kicked off with a welcome speech from Project Coordinator of AROH Foundation followed by the felicitation of the guests. Speech from the project Manager of AROH Foundation as she said that Teacher Day is celebrated with immense Zeal in various school across India on the 5th of September each year. It is a day to pay respect to the teachers and thank them for their effort and hard work they put in every day all round the year to nurture the students.

NEIGRIHMS nutrition prog
SHILLONG: NEIGRIHMS Dietary Unit celebrated a one-day programme “Tot up Nutrition for Infants and Toddler” on Thursday. The programme was organised to sensitise the general public specifically the mothers of infants and toddlers about the importance of complementary feeding to cope with the rapid growth spurt from 6 months to 3 years. A variety of complementary feeds for infants and wide range of local snacks for toddlers like ‘Pu riewhadem, ‘Puthiang shira, ‘Puthiang dai, etc were displayed outside the Gynae/ Obs OPD for mothers visiting the hospital. Director of NEIGRIHMS Prof. (Dr.) D.M Thappa was the chief guest. Deputy Director David. T Umdor, Medical Superintendent Prof (Dr.) Noor Topno, faculty of paediatrics and hospital administration also joined the dietary unit NEIGRIHMS to celebrate the event. The Director in his speech appreciated the work done by the dietary unit in last few years and explained to audience as how such initiative can improve malnutrition problems of infant like marasmus and kwashiorkor.

Poshan Mela inaugurated
SHILLONG: The Poshan Mela was organised by the District Administration, East Khasi Hills District and North East Slow Food & Agrobiodersity Society (NESFAS) in collaboration with the Office of the District Programme Officer, ICDS (Cell), Shillong, as part of the observation of Poshan Maah. While inaugurating the Mei Ram-ew Farmers’ Market and Poshan Mela in Shillong on Friday, East Khasi Hills District DC, M. War Nongbri spoke on the ocassion. Others who spoke were D. V. Massar, District Programme Officer ICDS (Cell), East Khasi Hills, Dr. Barikor Warjri, Assistant Professor Department of Home Science St. Mary’s College, Shillong and Dr. Mebari Nongrum, Executive Director, NESFAS. Later, the chief guest also gave away the best stall award of the exhibition to the stall of North East Slow Food & Agrobiodersity Society (NESFAS), Shillong.
