Awareness on PMAY-U
NONGSTOIN: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of India through PMAY-Urban, Nongstoin, in collaboration with Basin Development Unit, Nongstoin and Nongstoin Traffic Branch organised an awareness programme on PMAY-U under ‘Angikaar — a Campaign to Embracing Change’. The programme was organised on Thursday at upper New Nongstoin in which Social Development Specialist PMAY-U, CLTC, Nongstoin, Marbiangki Nikhla was the resource person, who briefed about the objective and benefits of PMAY-U. District Programme Manager Basin Development Unit, Nongstoin R Majaw briefed about the harmful effects of plastics and advised everyone to avoid using it. A street play on ‘Angikaar’ was also performed by the thespian group on how to preserve the environment, how to conserve water and electricity, and how to maintain cleanliness and healthy habits.
Scheme for villages and schools
NONGSTOIN: The MDC of Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency Bajop Pyngrope, during a programme on Thursday, released his MDC scheme under Central Assistance Scheme worth Rs 70,00,000 to different villages and schools under Rambrai Constituency. The programme, which was organised by MDC at District Council Branch office in Nongstoin, was attended by President of West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee B Nonglang, village headmen of Rambrai area and the beneficiaries. Bajop Pyngrope, while speaking to the media here in Nongstoin, said that the scheme is meant for those villages and schools which required assistance to improve their daily need. He said that the scheme will reach to the public transparently urging everyone to implement it fully without misusing it. Pyngrope also distributed work order to some villages and school that were present on the day.
Manipuri literary meet
SHILLONG: Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Meghalaya will hold its 15th Annual Conference and Literary Meet on Saturday and Sunday at Manipur Rajbari, Red Land, Laitumkhrah. Governor Tathagata Roy will grace the function as the chief guest during the programme. The conference will be attended by delegates including authors, poets, singers and other renowned artists from the North East and also from Bangladesh.
JSU to hold social meet
SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Shillong Circle will organise a social meet called ‘All Jaintia Meet-2019’-cum-sports and literary award distribution and cultural programme on Saturday at Anton Hall, Laitumkhrah.
The theme for this community event is “Chiroop u yakreh lang yow bet u chara ia ka mynried “ (Let us work together for a shared future). Minister Kyrmen Shylla will be the chief guest for the social meet whereas guest of honour will be the representative of Jowai Constituency, Wailadmiki Shylla. The resource person for the event will be Toki Blah, retired IAS. The students’ union said that the main purpose of the event is to bring forth and strengthen the unity of the welfare of the Jaintia people residing in Shillong and East Khasi Hills District, to present appreciation awards for both students and sportspersons, and to also give an opportunity to the students residing in Shillong to showcase their talents.
Meet to discuss CAB
SHILLONG: North East Indigenous People Forum (Meghalaya Chapter) will organise a meeting on the November 11 in the office of the FKJGP Mawlai to discuss matters relating to strengthening the movement of the forum in Meghalaya and also to discuss matters relating to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill as intended to pass by the Centre.
NIT holds conference
SHILLONG: The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya) organised A Two-Day International Conference (COIN-2019) on the theme ‘Intersections of Literature and History for Social and Cultural Change’ recently at the campus of the Institute at Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah. The conference was partly sponsored by ICSSR-NERC and TEQIP III.
