TURA: The residents of Chambil Tolejang, Sibbari and the entire Dareng river valley in South Garo Hills who have been without mobile network coverage for a year now have approached the Garo Student Union, Southern Zone for help.
Chambil Tolejang is just around 30kms from Baghmara, the headquarters of South Garo Hills and its residents along with the surrounding villages are facing immense hardships due to nonexistent mobile network coverage.
According to villagers there was a BSNL mobile tower that provided erratic but none the less much needed mobile communication coverage to the entire region.
However the tower stopped functioning in the month of December, 2018 and since then the residents are without any mobile network coverage which has become a setback and is immensely hindering normal life informed villagers.
The GSU after being made aware of the situation met the Sub Divisional Officer (Telecom), BSNL and the Centre Manager, JIO, West Garo Hills on Saturday last to apprise them of the situation and come to an agreement of some sorts to provide much needed mobile connectivity to the region. Meanwhile, concerned officials have reportedly promised to look into the matter at the earliest.
