NONGPOH: A day after Nongpoh legislator Mayralborn Syiem petitioned Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on the issue of temporary teachers, the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) on Tuesday issued a one-time extension for temporary appointment of 59 days for  teachers in the state.
Syiem has expressed concern following the order of the DSEL on January 24, which directs all the DSEOs and SDSEOs in the state not to issue extension for appointment of temporary/officiating/contract-basis teachers in state.
He stated as the results for Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) is not yet out, many lower primary and upper primary schools would suffer as it is time for reopening of the schools.
The MLA, in his petition to the education minister, had stated that there are as many as 14 schools in Ri Bhoi without regular teachers and therefore, requested Rymbui to look into the matter for smooth functioning of LP and UP schools in the state.
