GUWAHATI: Assam Governor inaugurates the Emerging North East, 2020 organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the governor said, “The North Eastern Region has immense natural resources, accounting for 34 per cent of the country’s water resources and almost 40 per cent of India’s hydropower potential. The NER is strategically located with access to the traditional domestic market of eastern India, along with proximity to the major states in the east and adjacent countries such as Bangladesh and Myanmar. The region is also a vantage entry point for the Southeast Asian markets. This resource-rich region, with its vast expanse of fertile farmland and huge untapped human capital, has the potential to be India’s most prosperous region.
The event was also attended by Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of industries & Commerce as the guest of honor.
The expo is being held from Thursday to Saturday and is supported by Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and others.
