TURA: Concerned over the severe implications being faced by the public amid the 21-day lockdown in view of coronavirus pandemic, organisations in Garo Hills have appealed to the state government to do more to mitigate the sufferings of the common men.
The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has appealed to the government and written to food and civil supplies minister, James Pangsang K Sangma, to take urgent steps so that food supplies are made available in the villages of the remote areas of Garo Hills.
He said that supply of food ration is essential and needs to be hastened to prevent another problem, besides coronavirus infection, from occurring.
The A’chik Holistic and Awakening Movement (AHAM) has also raised the food shortage problem with its chief organising secretary, Cherian Momin, urging North Garo Hills deputy commissioner to look into the hurdles of the daily-wage earners, who have no work and money to buy essential commodities.
