Govt extends curfew in three districts to combat COVID-19

Khliehriat/Mawkyrwat/Ampati: The District Magistrates of East Jaintia Hills (EJH), South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) and South West Garo Hills (SWGH) have decided to further extend the curfew in the districts as a measure to avert any possible novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the state.
A statement issued by the EJH District Magistrate FM Dopth on Monday said that the curfew will be promulgated from 6 am on Tuesday till 6 am on Friday.
The statement has also exhorted the public to maintain social distance and adhere strictly to the rules issued by the government, adding that the local headmen in coordination with the police will regulate the operation of the makeshift markets in their respective villages.
Similarly, the District Magistrate of SWKH has also extended the curfew in the district till Friday 6 am.
SWKH District Magistrate Isawanda Laloo, however, said that relaxation for market areas and regulation of the same will be informed through a separate order.
“Any citizen/in distress/in need of essential provisions and otherwise aggrieved by this order may call District Control Room 6909904336/6033162971,” the statement said.
In SWGH, the District Administration has issued prohibitory order and extended the period of curfew till 6 am of April 4.
The move in the district has been taken to ensure that all residents of the district strictly maintain social distancing protocols as per the advisory of the state government as well as that of Health department.
In view of the situation, the Incident Response Team (IRT) of the district has been constituted while the District Emergency Operations Centre activated with the Deputy Commissioner as the Responsible Officer, and officials of the District Administration and other district officers in charge of various commands and sections.
A dedicated coronavirus treatment centre as well as quarantine centres have also been identified in the district with officers assigned to each centre for effective monitoring.
Meanwhile, the District Administration has taken all steps to ensure that there is no shortage of supply of essential commodities during the lockdown period and intensive awareness has been created among the residents of the district on the dos and don’ts so as to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to extend their cooperation by staying at home and maintaining social distancing.
