SHILLONG: The state government has approved home delivery of liquor on health ground strictly with medical prescription issued by registered medical practitioners.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Deputy Secretary, Excise, Registration, Taxation and Stamps department said that bonded warehouse may be allowed to sell and provide home delivery of liquor as a special case with immediate effect up to April 14 wherein customers aged 21 and above log in and upload the medical prescription for the delivery of liquor to residence and the bonded warehouse in turn obtains the approval of the Officer In-charge of the Excise, bonded warehouse and delivers the liquor to the customers on request upon payment.
The deputy secretary also asked the Commissioner of Excise to issue detailed instructions to the bonded warehouse and excise officials regarding the modalities of home delivery by the bonded warehouse to the customers upon request strictly on health grounds.
Extra charges may be allowed to be levied by the bonded warehouse subject to maximum of Rs 100 within 15 kilometers and Rs 200 beyond 15 kms.
The statement also said that the order may be treated as a temporary measure only to cater to the essential health needs of genuine customers.
