NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) Mawshynrut Circle, while expressing concern over illegal entry and exit of outsiders from different routes along the interstate border with Assam as well as the inter-district border areas of East Garo Hills like Rongjeng, Mangsang, Malangkona, Langdongdai, etc., said that the District Administration of West Khasi Hills has not taken the union’s appeal to provide better security seriously.
The union said that it had apprised the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, T Lyngwa, about the need to appoint medical team along with proper equipment along the interstate and inter-district borders.
The DC had assured the union that the administration would do the needful, however, no such team has been sent till date, the KSU claimed.
Ulysis Ryntong, general secretary of the union, said that people from outside the state are still free to enter West Khasi Hills District via the border areas without proper checking and screening.
Ulysis also informed that recently, the union had detected one Pik Up truck from Goalpara, Assam at Zero Point, Riangdo, transporting food items in the area despite ban on interstate border movement. The truck was set back by the union, it said.
While instructing the shops to sell essential commodities at prescribed rates, the union warned people against transporting materials from outside into the state without government permission.
