TURA/KHLIEHRIAT/MAWKYRWAT/NONGPOH/NONGSTOIN/JOWAI: District magistrates of West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills have extended curbs in their respective districts, some with modifications, as a measure to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19.
In West Garo Hills, the district magistrate informed that the curfew was extended till 6 am of May 9 with some changes in the order.
The curfew, which comes into force with immediate effect carrying the same prohibitions and exemptions issued earlier, lists fresh activities now permitted including the operation of auto rickshaws with 50 per cent seating capacity, which would ply on ‘odd/ even basis’ (odd registration number on odd day and even registration number on even day).
The order also permits the operation of all forms of public transport which will be regulated by District Transport Officer and shall be allowed to the extent of 25 per cent and all vehicles to operate at 50 per cent alternate seating arrangement.
The district magistrate, while maintaining that all schools and educational institutions will remain closed, directed the maintenance of the academic schedule through online teaching.
The order also restricts movement of individuals between 7 pm to 7 am as well as plying of vehicles other than those ferrying essential commodities.
Lockdown till May 9 in EGH
Meanwhile, the lockdown in East Garo Hills district has been extended to May 9 with prohibitions being imposed on operation of weekly and regular markets, commercial and financial institutions, movement of private vehicles except those with valid car passes and the exempted categories, movement of individuals between 7 pm and 7 am and gathering of 5 or more persons in public places, etc.
Just like in West Garo Hills, identified shops will remain opened including repair and servicing shops and the 25 per cent of public transport with 50 per cent capacity will be allowed.
Other permitted activities will remain the same as notified earlier. The same lockdown order with the same prohibitions and exemptions was also issued by the District Magistrate of South West Garo Hills district. Unlike the extension order till May 9 in East and West Garo Hills, the lockdown will continue to be in force in South West Garo Hills until further orders.
While much of the contents of the order are the same as West and East Garo Hills, the timing for the opening of shops and establishment was slightly different. Identified shops will remain opened from 7 am to 1 pm, while liquor shops have been allowed to open from 8 am to 1 pm.
Night curfew in EJH
Night curfew was promulgated in East Jaintia Hills until further orders between 7 pm and 6 am by the district magistrate, a statement said. The district magistrate informed that curfew passes for timings falling between curfew hours can be obtained via online application at www.me-gedistrict.gov.in.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate of South West Khasi Hills, while issuing restrictions in the district until May 11, permitted movement of individuals within the district during day time barring the hours between 7 pm and 6 am. Assembly or gathering in all public places or premises is still prohibited, a statement said. Other regulations remain the same.
“Mawkyrwat market being the biggest public market with heavy rush will continue to be regulated as per existing arrangements and weekly market system will remain suspended until further orders,” Laloo said, adding that additional passes will be issued to headmen and market IDs will be increased based on village population.
Further, the district administration of Ri Bhoi promulgated night curfew till May 11 between 7 pm and 6 am each day.
