Two cops suspended for caning man
Chhindwara: Head constable Krishna Dongre and constable Ashish were suspended on Sunday after a video of them brutally caning a man went viral on Saturday. The incident took place on May 10 in Piplanarayanwar village of Lodhikheda police station of Saunsar tehsil of Chhindwara District in the constituency of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath. After the video went viral on social media, Additional Superintendent of Police Shashank Garg ordered an inquiry into the matter. Sub divisional officer of police S.P. Singh was asked to conduct the investigation. According to preliminary information, the man was drunk and was creating nuisance near a bank branch and the staff had complained to the police. No case was registered against the man for violating lockdown. Even as bystanders tried to stop the constables, they went on beating the victim. The man who was allegedly beaten up was taken to the district hospital for medical examination after which he was dropped at his residence. His condition is better, said police. (IANS)

Man uses snake to kill wife
Thiruvananthapuram: The Crime Branch of the Kerala Police, here on Sunday, claimed to have solved a murder by arresting husband of the 25-year-old woman and his associate for hatching a conspiracy to eliminate her by making a snake bite her at Anchal, about 70 km from here. She died on May 7. Speaking to the media, Hari Sankar, Kollam (rural) SP, said it was a well-hatched conspiracy by the deceased’s husband Suraj and his friend Suresh, a snake catcher. The case was handed over to the Crime Branch on a complaint from the deceased’s parents, he added. Detailing the case, he said, “The first attempt to kill Uthara failed as she recovered after the snake bite. Two days after she was discharged from the hospital, Suraj bought another snake on April 24. He kept it in a container. “On the night of May 6, he placed the snake on the bed she was sleeping. The snake bite her twice. He tried to retrieve the snake, but failed. Next morning he went out and her mother found her lying unconscious. They took her to the hospital, but was declared brought dead. Later, when they returned to the house, the snake was located and killed.” The motive behind the crime, Sankar said was Suraj wanted another wife. (IANS)

Scindia ‘missing’, says posters; 1 held
GWALIOR: A Congress functionary was arrested on Sunday after ‘missing’ posters of BJP leader and former Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia with a reward of Rs 5,100 were put up at the gates of the latter’s Jai Vilas palace in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, police said. Scindia recently joined the BJP and the resignation of 22 supporter MLAs from the Congress and the MP Assembly led to the fall of the Kamal Nath government on March 20, and return of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief minister on March 23. After BJP workers filed a complaint, Congress leader Siddharth Singh Rajawat was arrested while hunt was on for other accused, Jhansi Road police station City Superintendent of Police M Rajoria said. Godse’s image in place of Bapu
Bhopal: A man from Sidhi district, claiming to be a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) – student outfit of the BJP – has cloned a Rs 10 currency note replacing Mahatma Gandhi’s image with that of his assassin Nathuram Godse. The activist who identified himself as Shivam Shukla while uploading the post on Facebook hailed his hero: “Long Live Nathuram Godse” to mark his 111th birth anniversary on May 19. Police have sought to track him down with the help of cyber experts to take action into the matter. The shocking incident was revealed two days after the saffron outfit Hindu Mahasabha celebrated the 111th birth anniversary of Godse by garlanding his portrait and lighting up diyas around the portrait at the Mahasabha’s office in Gwalior. Congress’ student wing, National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), has filed a complaint against Shukla on the incident. ABVP also filed a complaint against the NSUI for “falsely dragging the name of ABVP” into the issue. Shukla has even changed Mahatma Gandhi’s famous couplet to praise Gandhi’s assassin. (PTI)
