SHILLONG: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh informed that broomstick has been exempted from tax payment and there should not be any confusion about the matter.
“We have made it clear that on the part of the government, the items cannot be taxed,” he said. He recalled that the government, in a notification, has declared broomstick as agro-forestry product.
It may be mentioned that traders in Mawiong Regulated Market refuse to take any of the broomstick brought by the farmers citing exorbitant Transit Pass (TP) issued by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The CEM of KHADC, Titos Chyne, said, “Since we have not received the official notification, there was confusion among the traders. We have received the notification. We will call the executive committee meeting and take a decision”.
