Megh Meet sees exciting action on 2nd day

SHILLONG: The second day of the Megh Meet 2013 saw East Jaintia Hills beat Ri-Bhoi 19-12 in a kho kho match in the men’s event while North Garo Hills overcame South West Khasi Hills with 35 points to 27.

In the women’s category, South Garo Hills beat North Garo Hills with 25-20 while West Jaintia Hills lost out to East Garo Hills 12-19.

In men’s football, South West Khasi Hills beat West Khasi Hills by the narrow margin of two goals to one.

Eleven Shylla and Renold Iawphniaw scored the two goals for SWKH while Kynjai Myrthong scored the solitary goal for the latter.

Ri-Bhoi thrashed North Garo Hills 4-0 with Maitshaphrang Nengnong and Denis Mawphniang scoring a brace each.

West Jaintia Hills narrowly beat South West Garo Hills by 3-2 and West Khasi Hills overcame East Garo Hills 1-0.

In handball, the South Garo Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills and North Garo Hills men’s teams progressed to the semifinals, which will be held on Thursday.

The women’s event will have Ri-Bhoi, East Garo Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills in the semis.

The semifinal of the badminton team event for men saw East Khasi Hills defeat East Jaintia Hills 2-0. In the other semifinal, West Jaintia Hills beat East Garo Hills 2-0.

The men’s volleyball event saw North Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills progress to the quarterfinals.
