NONGSTOIN: Land acquisition problem is delaying entry and exit points at Athiabari in West Khasi Hills, the district administration has informed the district unit of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU).
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, KSU’s education secretary Ellen Syiemlieh said, “We met Deputy Commissioner Arunkumar Kembhavi and demanded an immediate implementation of facilitation centre at Athiabari for setting up entry and exit points.”
However, Kembhavi informed the KSU members that the delay was due to land hurdles. The proposed site for the points falls under KHADC land and it will be a long process to get the NOC from the Council.
The DC further said the Government’s proposal to set up entry and exit points will either be in Athiabari or Kamriangsih.
KSU has advised the DC to convince the Government to choose another site if the KHADC fails to give NOC. “We have also made a proposal for another entry and exit point at Kyrshai,” Syiemlieh said.
The State Government has sanctioned three facilitation centres in West Khasi Hills and Athiabari is in Phase – I. Malangkona and Langpih fall in phase – III.
