SHILLONG: With an aim to provide succor better life to stray animals which are often harassed and assaulted, Stray Animal Rescue Society (SARS) recently organized   SARS Volunteer Program, followed by an orientation programme for new volunteers.

Retired IPS officer, W R Marbaniang was the chief guest in the programme which was also participated by officials of Meghalaya Police and Veterinary Department.

During the programme, each of our dignitaries expressed their support to the Society in terms of guidance, networking and pledged their support to work closely with the Society

The SARS Volunteer Programme is the backbone of every animal welfare programme anywhere in the world so are their volunteers. It is impossible to run projects and campaigns without the support and involvement of dedicated volunteers.

Tee Mawlong from the Society said that over the last few months many compassionate citizens of Shillong had come forward to support their cause and they had selflessly gone the extra mile to help distressed and helpless animals.

In May 2017, the Society sent out an online Volunteer Application Form and the response has been overwhelming with people, young and old, from diverse backgrounds and walks of life have joined hands for such a cause.

During the programme, new volunteers were trained and over 70 youth across Shillong have signed up in the first phase of the application process itself.

For every application phase, the Society will be having an orientation and training program where the Society would teach them about the PCA laws. methods of rescue and how to file an FIR.
