SHILLONG: The Health and Family Welfare department in the state will issue the pre-termination notice to GVK EMRI 108 ambulance service on Thursday with a warning that they must resume their services within two months time.

Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Wednesday, state’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek said that the notice was supposed to be issued on Wednesday but it could not be done.

“We will issue the notice on Thursday,” Hek said while adding that in the notice, they have been given a  60  days to resume their service failing which the agreement between the Government and the GVK EMRI 108 would be terminated.

It may be mentioned that the AL Hek earlier had sought a detailed report about the strike of the GVK EMRI employees in the state.

It may be mentioned that more than 200 ambulance drivers and other respondents of Meghalaya GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) 108 Ambulance Service have been on an indefinite strike.

The strike, organised under the banner of Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU), started on September 30, with protesters demanding that the government immediately terminate the contract with GVK EMRI, and take over the emergency services.

With the ambulance services remaining affected for long, it is the common people requiring medical services who have suffered the most.

The agitating employees want the Meghalaya Government to take over the  services while the Government has made it clear that it has no plans to do so as of now.
