Child trafficking cases in Assam sees 55 per cent growth: Panel
Guwahati: The Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) on Tuesday said child trafficking cases has increased by at least 55 per cent in 2019 across the state. Addressing a press conference here, ASCPCR Chairperson Sunita Changkakati said a total of 125 cases of different crimes against children were registered with the organisation during the current year. “Till November 10 this year, we have registered 17 cases of child trafficking. This figure was 11 for the whole year of 2018,” she said. There are other crimes which have also taken place in considerable numbers, the chairperson said. “We registered 43 cases of child sexual abuse in the same period this year against 53 in 2018. There were five cases of child marriage too compared to six last year,” Changkakati told reporters. (UNI)


Security forces recover arms and ammunition in Manipur
Imphal: Security forces recovered arms and ammunition from a riverbank in Manipur’s Thoubal district on Tuesday, a senior police officer said. SP S. Ibomcha Singh said acting on a tip-off a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles conducted a search operation and recovered one carbine with a magazine and one 9 mm pistol along with a magazine from the river bank at Awal Masjid, Lilong Yangbi Leikai Ward No 3 under the jurisdiction of Lilong police station. No one was arrested in this connection, the SP said. The seized arms and ammunition were handed over to Lilong police station. (PTI)


Incessant rains damage Kohima-Dimapur road
Kohima: The incessant rains that occurred in Nagaland last week and continued till Monday night, has damaged the National Highway 29, the lifeline of Nagaland and Manipur and stopped all vehicular movement. A release issued by the PRO of Kohima Police informed that movement of heavy traffic over the Dzuda (Hydro) bridge, which has partially collapsed due to the continuous rain, has been stopped and all vehicles will ply through the old KMC dumping area on National Highway 29. The Dzuda bridge is being repaired on an emergency basis, the release said. However, light vehicles plying from Kohima to Dimapur and vice versa will be diverted through the Jotsoma bypass. Six- wheeler trucks and passenger buses will have to take the Tsiesema-10th Mile-Peducha road. (UNI)

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Tuesday called upon the people to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak and overcome the five vices – lust, greed, attachment, anger and pride. Participating in the Guru Nanak Jayanti celebration at the Gurudwara Saheb in Naharlagun, the governor expressed hope that Guru Nanak’s message of peace, brotherhood and development would be further embedded in the heart and mind of the people.
