5 militants killed in encounter
Srinagar: Five militants were on Sunday killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, a defence official said. “Five terrorists have been eliminated in operation Reban in Shopian,” defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said. He said good drills ensured no collateral damage took place during the operation. A police official said the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Reban area of Shopian, in South Kashmir, this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area. Dalit father, son beaten to death
Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh): A Dalit father-son duo were allegedly beaten to death by their neighbours over a property dispute in Hanuman Nagar locality in Moradabad on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Kishan Lal (52), and his son Rajesh (22). The father’s body was found inside the house, while the son’s body was found about 200 metres away from the house. According to police, 10 to 15 people barged into the victims’ house and attacked the family members, killing the father and son on the spot. (IANS)

2 cr turtles made their way to sea
Kendrapara: Millions of Olive Ridley hatchlings have crawled their way to the sea over the past month after emerging from eggs at the Garhirmatha sanctuary here, marking the culmination of the annual sojourn of the endangered species to the Odisha island. Around 4.70 lakh female turtles had turned up to lay eggs, a phenomenon otherwise called arribada, at the idyllic Gahirmath beach — widely regarded as the world’s largest nesting ground for these marine animals, Bikash Ranjan Dash, the divisional forest officer (DFO), Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division. The hatchlings had mostly emerged during the first fortnight of May, he said. (PTI)

Man celebrates b’day on street
Mumbai: A 22-year-old man was arrested from Nagpada in south Mumbai for allegedly violating the lockdown order and social distancing norms by celebrating his birthday with his friends on a street in his area and bursting crackers, police said on Sunday. The accused, Hammad Ansari, who claims to be a social workers, was arrested on Saturday after he shared a video of his birthday celebration on social media, a police official said. “Ansari and his friends celebrated his birthday during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday at Madanpura. They burst loud fire crackers and Ansari cut a cake on a street,” the official said. (PTI)
Hospitals fined for violations
Thane: Two hospitals in Thane district in Maharashtra designated as COVID-19 facilities were fined Rs 1 lakh per patient for violation of regulations laid down by the state government, a senior civic official said on Sunday. Thane Deputy Municipal Commissioner Vishwanath Kelkar said the two hospitals were given several warnings before the fines were imposed under the Maharashtra COVID-19 Rules and the Epidemic Diseases Act.
