Manipur rivers in spate, large areas flooded

 IMPHAL:Heavy rainfall during the past few days has flooded large parts of the state and most rivers are flowing near danger mark.

Large numbers of houses were inundated at Uripok, Lamphel, Sagolband. Government offices, Border Road Task Force (BRTF), CRPF, police stations, Indian Council of Agricultural Research office, schools at Lamphel had been flooded.Large tracts of agricultural lands at Imphal West, Thoubal, Imphal East, Bishenpur districts were submerged.

Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) officials said the rivers were flowing at high levels. Those living beside Nambul river had been badly affected.

The water level of river Imphal was above 785.8 mtr, river Lilong at 780.350 mtr, river Iril at 784.725 m, river Thoubal at 778.915 mtr.

Though the exact numbers of people displaced was not available, it was estimated that over a thousand people had been affected at Thoubal district.

Ministers, local MLAs and officials visited the flood-affected areas on Saturday and inspected the conditions.There was apprehension that the embankments may collapse. (UNI)
