Garo Hills rocks for peace; Bands belt peace tunes

 Williamnagar: The day long celebration of the Pingera festival where kids took part in fashion shows and the young displayed their multifarious talents, the evening turned into a robust rock concert where a ten thousand strong crowd lent its support to the call for peace. The concert at the WDSA stadium really rocked the crowd said a youth who attended the concert.

The theme for the rock concert, ‘No guns, only guitars saw some top groups perform. Restless desire, Lucid Interval both Tura based groups sang their hearts out. Then there was Phoenix band from Williamnagar which rocked the stage. Interestingly,

Interestingly Lucid Interval is a band of doctors who use their leisure hours to give vent to their musical talent. MPCC Working President Deborah C Marak was the chief guest for the evening.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said, “This is an unprecedented gathering. It shows that people want to invest in peace”

Earlier, addressing the enthusiastic audience, Bakshi said all the youth who have turned up for the concert are emissaries of peace, hope and development and they are the future of Williamnagar and the state.

Former Minister and former MLA Williamnagar Deborah Marak said she had initiated the winter festival six years ago but this is the biggest ever gathering she had witnessed. Marak wished the people a Happy Christmas.
