M’laya moots separate probe cell

SHILLONG: Meghalaya stressed the need for creation of a separate wing of investigating officers with 33 percent for women , to contain rape.

Chief Secretary WMS Pariat and DGP Kulbir Krishan, who took part in the meeting on crime against women, convened by the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi on Friday told the gathering that in line with the creation of Indian Reserve Battalion , the Centre can fund for the recruitment of sub inspectors as investigating officers to speed up the investigation of cases of crime against women in the State.

According to State officials, in such a recruitment process, 33 per cent jobs will be reserved for women sub-inspectors. The State also suggested that considering the rise in rape cases involving minors , there is a need to amend the juvenile justice act to consider minors as those who are below 16 years and not below 18 years.
