IMPHAL: Manipur Congress MLA MK Preshow escaped an assassination bid on his life when heavily armed suspected hill based militants attacked him in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Tuesday afternoon.

Police reports said the Congress MLA from Chingai assembly constituency of Ukhrul district was returning to Imphal after attending a programme when a powerful bomb hurled on his vehicle by the armed men from the hill top missed the target and exploded infront of one of the bullet proof escort vehicles trailing him near a village called Kuivakajo, some 2 kilometres from Ukhrul district headquarters at around 2:30 pm.

There followed a heavy exchange of fire between the heavily armed suspected militants and the escort party of the MLA. The incident ensued for about 45 minutes, the reports added. However, there was no report of any casualty from both the sides.

Reports, however said some vehicles of the escort party were slightly damaged in the incident.

Around ten escort vehicles of the Manipur Rifles of the 6th and the 7th battalions were escorting MK Preshow that included an additional escort.

Meanwhile, it is not clear who might have been behind Tuesday’s assassination bid on Preshow’s life. (NNN)
